This March the trip was to the region where the Mangaone Stream flows into the Manawatu River.  Fifteen-centimetre quadrats were kick-sampled across the stream.  This allowed the change in frequency of different invertebrates to be found and explained.
The most common were bloodworms, snails, water boatmen, shrimps and mayfly larvae.

This season the water flow was low and the depth only a few centimetres in many areas.  Hardly any large crustaceans were found.
